Birthdays

I love nothing more than birthdays!! They are the most special day of the year, and the focus is all on you. I love to plan them, organize and decorate. (and I'm not just talking about my birthday... I'm talking about ALL BIRTHDAYS!)

My mom and I share a birthday, July 30... feel free to send gifts ... So it is hard to do anything for just one of us. So what we do is, we normally celebrate her birthday on the 30th, and I'll do something for MY birthday before or after with some of my friends.

Anyways today is my friend Brittany Moore's 22nd birthday. She had a party down in Tuscaloosa at her apartment this weekend, that I was so excited to attend. (Yes, that's right... I will go the distance for a birthday.) Anyways today is her ACTUAL birthday and she is celebrating with her family. Since I can't be there, I decided to make my very first birthday video. It is currently uploading to YOUTUBE as we speak.

I had a lot of fun making it and thought I'd share it with you! (Of course I've already posted it to her facebook wall, so don't think she's missing out!)

Let me know what you think. Hahaha... or not... It was pretty silly.

Until next time

UPDATE

Ok so recently I have been feeling bloggers remorse. meaning.. I have spent time reading other people's blogs, thinking to myself 'man I really wish I had time to write something on my blog' and then carry on with my day.... not writing anything at all.

Not to say that I'm not writing, because as most people who know me, know I am interning at The Alabama Baptist Newspaper this summer, and I'm basically writing all day everyday. (just not the fun stuff, in NON-AP style :) )

So let me just say that there are two blogs (both of people I know) that I have been consistently reading for pure entertainment. LOVE them! They are full of funny stories and great photos, and really who doesn't love a story with photos??

RANDOM STORY BUT KINDOF ON TOPIC -- ok here's a quick story about how good these blogs are: I am subscribed to my friend Laura's twitter (check her out @lwilderwoman) and anyways because I work an 8-5 job I don't get to check my facebook and twitter as often as I'd like so I'm subscribed to certain people so their updates get sent to my phone. Anyways Laura tweeted that she had a new blog post and I was DYING to go read it. I waited till I finished what I was working on to take a little... um... let's call it a break? So I logged on and started to read. It was so good, that I scrolled down and noticed their was a couple I had missed. As I was reading I completely lost track of time, and actually started laughing out loud.... OUT LOUD. Now this would not be a problem if I had controllable laughter, but if you know me you know that once I start, it becomes even funnier the more I try to stifle it. All in all, lesson learned, wait till I get home to read these oh so enjoyably entertaining blog posts. ...and maybe unsubcribe some of my twitter contacts from my phone, seeing as how they tempt me so! ....on second thought, I'll just work on the first part.

Back to reality...

Other blogs I have been checking out are Home Decorating, Design on a Budget, Do it Yourself type of crafting, revamp old furniture blogs. This is because well, first of all I LOVE craft projects and secondly I am moving into a new apartment for my senior year of college, so I've been looking for COLLEGE BUDGET FRIENDLY projects and cheap ways to make yard sale finds, my style... ha, or just sanitary enough to be around.

All that to say, its a Saturday. No work, nothing to stop me from whipping up a blog post, so that's exactly what's happening. I'd also like to say that I'm going to work on writing more frequently.... because there are QUITE a few ISSUES going down in my life, and this just may be an interesting way to vent. Well... we'll see.

Until next time.

its video time

Hey everyone, so before you think I've gone off and left you WAIT! I can explain!!
I have been busy working on videos, that I have been uploading to my youtube channel, which in case you haven't seen please check it out!

http://www.youtube.com/user/thekatiewood

Not only have I been working on several stop motion animation videos, I have also been experimenting with VLOGS! (video blogs) and I have to say I really enjoy vlogging! At first it may be a little embarrassing walking around in public filming yourself or even the people around you, but it only gets easier.

I'm also enjoying working with the editing software! SO FUN! It's like I've found a FREE hobby! (beware it can be VERY time consuming)

For those of you who may still be wondering I am STILL on the job hunt, and yes I realize it is more than half way into February, but let me tell you the job market is not looking good. I've put in the time, applications and have searched all over Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and no one is hiring!

I do still have hope! And the search continues! Let me know if you know anywhere in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham that is looking for weekend help! (I don't have any classes on Fridays so I would be free to work all day Friday-Sunday plus more if the job is in Tuscaloosa!)

Thanks!
And don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel!

Until Next Time!

its a rental

So whether your in college or have been in college, you know that books are outrageously expensive. I always wait till THE last minute to purchase my books, and always try to get USED if they have any. I like to check all the local stores after the university book store to compare prices.
This year however, I only had to buy 5 books and after checking all the prices around town, the price for just two books was $230.
OUTRAGEOUS!
So, I decided to look at other options out there. I had never bought any of my books online before, but with prices like these I had to give it a look. I checked amazon.com, half.com, and even ebay, but the prices were all still very high. (and it's not like I'm taking advanced chemical engineering or anything! they are just spanish, art, and journalism books!)
Anyways, I saw on ad on the side of my facebook page, which I know sounds soo weird and random, and usually I don't even notice them. But this one caught my attention. It was an advertisement to RENT textbooks!
I checked out the website, read some testimonials to make sure it was legit, and found all of my books for less than $200! They paid my shipping and will pay my return shipping when I'm finished.

I am so excited, and I'm going to pick them up at my house today! Their website allows you to actually track your purchases, so it was so cool seeing my book leave from chicago then arrive in nashville, ect.

The website is bookrenter.com and I highly recommend it.
(I also felt very 'forward thinking' with renting my textbooks! haha)
Until next time

its a bama nation

After a wonderful month long break, I am finally back at my second home. THE University of Alabama... also known as the 2009 BSC NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!! WOOHOO!!! Not only am I back at school ready to start a new semester, but I am back with a new excitement.
The championship merchandise is coming out of the wazoo over here, and i LOVE it! I think I learned in my anthropology class last semester, that people, no matter who they are or where they're from, if they have a common interest or are from the same place or associated 'home' to be the same as a total stranger, then they will cling to each other in a bond that is like no other.
I think that is what I am seeing around me constantly. From the hoodies, to caps, from T-shirts, to bumper stickers, the entire town is in a joyous bond over the Crimson Tide's success. Shop clerks are friendlier, cashier's are kinder, and students who are would-be-strangers have an instant conversation starter and bonding point.
ahh, whatever it is, I am loving the feeling of togetherness and camaraderie. There really is nothing like it.
Saturday at 2pm there will be a special celebration ceremony held at Bryant-Denny stadium (sacred ground) that is open to the public free of charge. Providing yet another opportunity to join together in total respect and admiration of a school, team, coach, and town that came out on top.

-on a side note, the coaches trophy- the crystal football which Nick Saban and the team so lovingly held above their heads and delicately kissed (which was kind of weird) was displayed in the Tuscaloosa Wal-Mart for photo-ops....
I mean really, what kind of idea are the people outside of Alabama going to get when they hear our sacred statue was placed in Wal-mart, and will be traveling to Wal-marts all over the state for people to view. haha oh well!
Congrats to my team, my school, and my city of Tuscaloosa. I am so proud to be here, especially during this historic time. I will never forget it.. neither will the record books.

its a lunch date

I love lunch dates with friends! Today I got to enjoy some delicious La Fiesta (which by the way, if you have not ever been there you are missing out... BIG TIME) with my friend Bailey Taylor!

We were THE first people in the place and we stayed for about two hours. We even had to let them know their OPEN sign was off when we came in. It was a great time. I will miss her when she goes to Auburn.... which is later today.
